How to Host: Workshop with Cory Michaelis

Sunday, August 3rd | 2:00 PM | 6th Ave – Tacoma
$20 to register – includes a $20 gift card to Grit City Breakfast / Tacoma Comedy Club (redeemable only by attendees)

For Current & Aspiring Host

Hosting is the first step to getting more stage time—and doing it right is how you keep that stage time. In this workshop, experienced club headliner, teacher, and producer Cory Michaelis will walk you through the ins and outs of emceeing at a professional comedy club, specifically what’s expected at Tacoma Comedy Club and other BARK Entertainment venues.

This workshop is built around the club’s official MC notes, policies, and recommendations—shared clearly and practically by someone who’s taught comics across the country and knows how to make the material click.

What You'll Learn:

  • What makes a great host (and what gets you passed over)
  • How to open the show with confidence and professionalism
  • Tips to stay engaging without relying on crowd work or going blue
  • Real-time solutions for keeping the show moving (even when it gets weird)
  • The difference between doing a good set and being a good host
  • A detailed walk-through of the club’s MC expectations—from intro to close

No need to perform or prep. You’ll learn through structured teaching, examples, and group discussions—not on-stage participation.

Who Should Attend:

  • Newer comics looking to start hosting
  • Working MCs who want to refine their set and approach
  • Any comic interested in learning what the club expects from the host role

Click here to reserve your spot now! Space is limited and the $20 gift card is only given to those who attend.
